As Head of Technical Design and Project Management at Adjaye Associates, Nick Hancock was involved throughout the project lifecycle from competition stage through to construction implementation. Working directly alongside the Principal, project teams, consultants and client representatives, his role focused on maintaining alignment between design intent, contractual obligations, technical requirements and project delivery objectives.
Rather than leading the architectural design itself, Nick’s responsibility was to provide the technical leadership, project oversight and strategic support necessary to enable the design teams to operate effectively within a highly complex international project environment. This included QA/QC management, bid support, fee negotiations, contractual oversight, technical review and delivery-stage problem solving.
As Head of the Large Development Projects team, Nick was responsible for ensuring project teams, consultants and delivery partners fulfilled their obligations while maintaining programme momentum and protecting the integrity of the design process. Acting as a senior point of escalation, he was frequently called upon to resolve technical, commercial, political and stakeholder challenges that had the potential to impact project outcomes.
The role required balancing client expectations, contractual commitments, technical requirements and delivery constraints while providing practical leadership and support to both project teams and senior management. This experience developed a deep understanding of how major international projects are structured, managed and delivered; particularly when navigating complexity, competing interests and high-stakes decision making.
