George Street Plaza forms part of the wider transformation of Sydney’s city centre, creating a new public gathering space and community building within one of Australia’s busiest urban corridors.

Developed by Adjaye Associates, the project draws inspiration from simple shelter forms and the cultural history of the Eora Nation, creating a civic destination that combines public space, community facilities and landscape into a unified architectural intervention.

As Project Lead, Nick Hancock was responsible for guiding the project from competition stage through to construction completion. Acting as the primary coordination point between client, consultants, specialist contractors and the wider design team, he oversaw design development, technical coordination, consultant management and delivery strategy throughout the life of the project.

The role required maintaining design integrity while navigating the practical challenges of procurement, stakeholder engagement, technical resolution and construction delivery within a complex urban environment.

The completed project provides a distinctive public destination that strengthens the relationship between architecture, landscape and community, contributing to the ongoing renewal of central Sydney while creating a meaningful civic space for residents and visitors alike.
