The Fosscross Creative Hub is a collaborative vision developed by Nick Hancock Design Studio (NHDS) and Robert Berenguer Segura for the transformation of a redundant agricultural grain processing building within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty into a vibrant cultural destination.
The proposal reimagines the existing structure as a creative hub comprising artist studios, workshops, gallery spaces, sculpture gardens and a manager’s residence. Rooted in the principles of adaptive reuse, the design seeks to preserve the building’s industrial heritage while creating a contemporary environment for artistic production, exhibition and community engagement.
Working with the building as found, the scheme celebrates its existing character through the retention and reinterpretation of the grain silos, steel structure and agricultural fabric. The project embraces a philosophy of radical reuse and low-impact intervention, transforming overlooked infrastructure into a meaningful cultural asset.
Operating entirely within the existing building envelope, the proposal minimises embodied carbon while introducing sustainable technologies including renewable energy generation, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation and enhanced thermal performance. The result is a flexible and enduring space that supports creative enterprise, strengthens local cultural activity and contributes positively to the surrounding rural landscape.
The project demonstrates how industrial agricultural buildings can be sensitively adapted to create new opportunities for culture, creativity and community while remaining deeply connected to their history and place.
